Ibiza toddler blouse

Ikatee patterns very kindly give you a FREE sewing pattern when you sign up to their newsletter. So what is a sewist to do? Obviously I made it. The pattern is a children’s summer blouse, which has ties for the shoulders and is quite easily customisable. I had a bit of fun with this – I used up my scraps and made a nice little top of my neice to wear in the summer.

1. The fabric

I used the light brown cotton shirting I had made the hankies out of before Christmas for the main fabric. But on its own it would look quite drab, so I needed to make it more exciting. I have bought some flowery navy viscose which I am planning to make a blouse/dress out of, and so I decided to use a tiny piece of it for decoration!

2. The pattern

This is a wonderfully simple pattern. The instructions are really clear, and the blouse goes together easily. I used french seams for the sides and all the other seams are bound with binding. I used some left over binding to sew on a little letter ‘h’ onto the front of the dress. At the back of the neck I used some elastic thread to create just one line of shirring. The pattern says that you can choose between using elastic thread or sewing in 1/4″ elastic – I decided elastic thread would be more straight forward.

3. The challenges

4. The final result

I really enjoyed sewing this – a quick project which was great fun. I really hope that this blouse will get a lot of use in the summer – it’ll certainly be nice and cool. It’s a forgiving design which should hopefully fit my neice, and hopefully it’ll look good too. Finger’s crossed!
