I was recently gifted a USB which is lovely but the socket is exposed. My USB sticks tend to end up in the bottom of my bag covered in dust – so probably not the best environment for giving my USB a long life! So I decided to make a little case for it, and then I ended up making two after my boyfriend suffered from some USB-case-envy!
The fabric:
As the USB’s are tiny this is a great scrap buster. I dug through my scrap drawer and used denim for my USB with a white lining (to match my Laptop Sleeve), and some of the dark red organic cotton crossweave (see Heron Top) with a floral pattern liner for my man.
The pattern:
Measure your USB to make sure it will fit, but here’s what I did for mine.
- Cut two 4cm by 14cm rectangles
- Cut each rectangle into a point at the end, 2cm long.
- Sew all around leaving the non-arrow end free (approx. 0.5cm seam allowance).
- Turn right way out and then hand stitch the open end shut.
- Fold the non-arrow end up, to cover your USB
- Hand sew the edges closed.
- Lastly sew on a popper so you can fasten it closed.

The challenges:
I was a bit slapdash at the start and misjudged the size, but once I measured the USB instead of guessing it went fine!
The final result:
Two cute USB cases (see arty-shot below!). Hopefully they will now live long and prosper.
