I've been looking at Spoonflower quite a bit recently (a print-your-own fabric company). See: http://www.spoonflower.com. It's a great idea, and I have two plans for what to make: Custom garment labels. Printing with Spoonflower is expensive, but labels are only small. I've calculated it'll be about. £10 for more than a years supply. Toddler T-shirt … Continue reading Spoonflower plans

The fit of the toddler T-shirt…
... is good! But the leggings are not so good... The waist is far too low and they keep slipping off. Not what you want from your trousers! I'm happy with the T-shirt though. I thought it looked a little tight in the sleeves but my brother said it was okay. I might go one … Continue reading The fit of the toddler T-shirt…
Summer “Pants” Sew-Along
I have had a few sewing fails recently which has knocked my sewing confidence - my nightdress looks good but isn't comfortable to wear, I also tried to make matching knickers and they ended up being far too small. So I've decided to do a sew-along in the hope that it will boost my 'sew-jo'! … Continue reading Summer “Pants” Sew-Along
What next?
Jersey! That's my hope at least. I wear a lot of jersey clothes and it would be great to be able to sew them. But my vintage Singer can only do straight stitches... After a lot of puzzling and searching lots of blogs and websites, I think I have the solution: 1) Mettler seraflock thread … Continue reading What next?
The fit of the dungarees…
...is bad! My niece is much bigger than I expected, and the dungarees nowhere near fit her. It's very sad! I'll have to try again and get some measurements next time. Hopefully I'll be able to find a child that they actually fit, so it can be used by someone. Finger's crossed!
Sewing Bee and denim
I'm so happy, the Great British Sewing Bee has returned! It was the first episode today (9pm, BBC2. On iPlayer if you missed it!) and it is still fantastic. Joe Lycett is a great replacement for Claudia Winkleman and the contestants are amazing sewists. Tuesday's are now my favourite day. In the first episode one … Continue reading Sewing Bee and denim
Momo in the sewing room
Momo decided the high shelves were far more interesting than the floor. But when she got up there, she realised the floor was very far away...
Sustainable fabrics
I've realised that now I'm learning to sew, I have the power to source 'ethical' or 'sustainable' fabric for my clothes. When buying from shops, it's rarely possible to find out the origins of each garment. So for my next project I decided to buy some 'good' fabric. But then you have to answer the … Continue reading Sustainable fabrics
What next?
Momo and I are very excited about the next project... the Merchant & Mills Heron top! It looks great, not too scary but I'll be sewing a collar with interfacing for the first time. I hope it goes well - watch this space for updates!
Where are the clothes?
You may be wondering why I haven't made any clothes yet. That is a good question! My lovely partner recently bought me this book: The Merchant and Mills Workbook is a beautiful book, which has 6 main projects which are really thoroughly explained, and it contains all of the patterns you need. Ideal for a … Continue reading Where are the clothes?
