Do you remember the old jeans I cut up into strips and sewed together, and then didn't know what to do with? Well, I decided to turn it into a pencil skirt! It's my first pattern-hack and I think it went quite well, although the denim is very heavy and it's a bit like wearing … Continue reading Denim pencil skirt

Pyjamas
My first venture into sewing jersey involved making two garments. Yes, two! First I made a vest top, then some pyjamas to go with it. I sewed it all on my vintage singer - no zigzagger (I have one but can't get it to work properly), no walking foot and no overlocker, just plain 'ol … Continue reading Pyjamas
Baby toy letter cubes
As a little side project, I decided to make some baby toys for a friend's daughter. She's about 6 month's old and her name is Lou. We were going to visit and I thought I would make a present. The fabric: When I put up new roller blinds in our house I had to cut … Continue reading Baby toy letter cubes
What next?
Jersey! That's my hope at least. I wear a lot of jersey clothes and it would be great to be able to sew them. But my vintage Singer can only do straight stitches... After a lot of puzzling and searching lots of blogs and websites, I think I have the solution: 1) Mettler seraflock thread … Continue reading What next?
Needle book
I woke up on Saturday morning, ready to do some sewing, but then I heard rattling... In the bottom of my sewing drawer there were loads of needles, pins and safety pins - some far too rusty to use! So I decided it was a good time for a tidy up. After sorting it all … Continue reading Needle book
The fit of the dungarees…
...is bad! My niece is much bigger than I expected, and the dungarees nowhere near fit her. It's very sad! I'll have to try again and get some measurements next time. Hopefully I'll be able to find a child that they actually fit, so it can be used by someone. Finger's crossed!
Baby dungarees
Making these baby dungarees was my first venture into sewing children's wear. The dungarees are the third item of clothing I have ever made, and I still have so much to learn! It took me three days in total to make this one, which is partly due to my lack of experience and partly due … Continue reading Baby dungarees
Sewing Bee and denim
I'm so happy, the Great British Sewing Bee has returned! It was the first episode today (9pm, BBC2. On iPlayer if you missed it!) and it is still fantastic. Joe Lycett is a great replacement for Claudia Winkleman and the contestants are amazing sewists. Tuesday's are now my favourite day. In the first episode one … Continue reading Sewing Bee and denim
Chinese New Year cat toy
On the 5th of February 2019 (just two days away) it will become the Chinese year of the pig. I love Chinese New Year and I was born in the year of the pig, but I have been told that it isn't actually a good thing - according to my Chinese friend it means I … Continue reading Chinese New Year cat toy
Heron Top
I really enjoyed sewing the Heron Top. It's another pattern from the Merchant & Mills Workbook. I took my time getting it right (unpicking and resewing more than once!), and I'm really pleased with the end result. The fabric: In a recent blog post I mentioned that I have decided to use sustainable fabrics for … Continue reading Heron Top
